Swimdress

We finally took pictures of Olivia's swimdress. Unfortunately, it was at night, before getting ready for bedtime. No sunshine or beautiful green outdoor pictures. Olivia decided to be silly....it was quite funny.





The patterns used were the Girls' Regency dress Pattern and Girls' Pantaloon pattern. The skirt portion of the swimdress was just a rectangular piece of fabric that I gathered and attached to the pantaloon part of the dress. I re-purposed an old swimdress of her sisters that was hardly used, but the material was too good to throw away, so I used it for this one. I'm not excited about this swimdress, I liked the older one better. The suplex for the skirt in the older one is very nice. I think I might go back to that style for the next one. With the way she is growing these days, I could easily see needing to make another one before the summer is out....maybe.

At least Olivia had a swimdress to wear in time for lessons and now the lessons are more than half way finished. :)

Another Oliver + S Shirred Popover Sundress

I have been busy sewing various items for young girls. I have made another Oliver + S shirred popover sundress, 4 pairs of pantaloons and a swimdress. The swimdress is the only thing for Olivia. The other items will be gifted to other girls.





For the pantaloons, I used unbleached muslin and cotton lace. They are great for putting under dresses and skirts for little girls to play hard and keep them dressed modestly. ;) I like to use that pattern to pair up with the Girls' Regency Dress Pattern to make lovely pj sets, such as this old picture of Olivia in her Regency nightgown and pantloons, all made from flannel. :)



The shirred popover sundress is made from a quilting cotton and lined with unbleached muslin. I made the navy bias tape from a cotton twill fabric. I was able to perfect my shirring technique with this dress and I'm loving it! I was doubly pleased to find out I could shirr two fabrics together, allowing me to be able to line the dress beautifully! I see lots more shirred items in my future. They are wonderful for making garments more flexible in fit. I can see this being a great way to make garments for girls who are developing into young women.




I have several other items cut out and hopefully will be able to sew them up this week. I will add swimdress pictures just as soon as I get my model to put them on so I can snap some pictures. :) They were finished in time for her swim classes, but we haven't had time to take pictures. :)

Remember the gym dress?

For those of you from the S&S site who have seen my sewing for Olivia, remember this gymdress? I made this for her in Jan. of '08.





Darling Olivia keep growing and her once lovely, well fitting gymdress now looks like this:



It's gotten shorter and she now has holes in the knees. Look how short those pant legs are? It's time for a new gymdress. This gymdress served her very well for her sports classes. She will be in sports again, in the fall, so now I have to think of another gym outfit for her. She's so skinny that nothing stays up on her waist. This dress was perfect for her....so maybe I will just do another one. Oh, and remember her swimdress?





It's a very good thing I made that large tuck on the inside of the bodice. It has now been let out, giving her more room in the trunk, but the legs and skirt are just starting to get short. I am hoping I can use it in the fall, when she goes back into classes. If not, I will need to make a new swimdress for her. My outdoor fabric place shut up shop this year, I will have to keep my eyes open for good swimming fabric, elsewhere.
